About our founder - Julie Fairhurst
Having spent 25 years as a successful and passionate primary school teacher, the Covid Pandemic hit. I found myself in a new world of teaching online and looking after the needs of my class remotely. Each family's circumstances were different and it was never one size fits all solution. This was where the idea of Close the Gap Education was born. The ability to build bespoke learning packages from home, providing a personlised education, was where I knew I wanted to be. Since leaving my permanent contract in school, things have quickly snowballed. I now find myself the owner of a thriving educational support business. From my home in the picturesque village of Lymm in Cheshire, I tutor a mixture of mainstream and home educated children. Online, I offer tailor made learning packages and support to families who are choosing to home educate. Face to face I support children who need that extra bit of confidence to achieve their full potential in school. Whatever I do and however I help each family, I am determined to go above and beyond to find the very best solutions, not only to close gaps in education but also to nurture a life long love of learning.
Teaching Experince
1998 - 2006
Class Teacher
Broomfields Junior School
Appleton, Warrington
Broomfields Junior School is a large (at the time five form entry) Junior School in the suburbs of Warrington. Here I had my first role as a primary school teacher. I taught years 3, 4 and 5 alongside being the ICT co-ordinator for the school.
2006 - 2011
Class Teacher
Little Bollington Primary School
Cheshire
Little Bollington Primary School is a tiny school (67 on role when I joined) in Cheshire. It has a high proportion of SEND children and taught me so much about providing a pupil lead curriculum and meeting the needs of children who are neurodiverse. I taught in every year group from Foundation up to Year 6 and was English Lead for the school.
2011 - 2023
Class Teacher
Grappenhall St Wilfrids Primary School
Grappenhall, Cheshire
Grappenhall St WIlfrid's is a two form entry primary school in the village of Grappenhall. I was a teacher there from 2011 until 2021, working in Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 5. I was also PSHE lead for the school. Since 2021 I have continued to work the school doing supply work in all year groups one day per week.
